Fallen Tree

I know its a bit scary looking, but don't run away. Pause and consider. When I draw or paint something, part of me is hoping that I convey some of the same feeling I have to someone else.

I saw this tree from across the field as I drove out to wait for my son to finish practicing soccer. What arrested my attention was the drama. The upended roots are like an explosion of dramatic contrasts bursting out like the fourth of July. The weathered and interesting textures add to the effect. At the same time, the restful decaying aspect gives it the solemn dignity of an ancient Greek ruin.

I know all that sounds rather pretentious, but why else would I stand out in a windy field with ants biting my ankles drawing this thing?
