Barn WIth Tree

Here is another barn portrait done in scratchboard style on Ampersand Claybord. Yes...that is "bord" without the "a". It is a hard panel about an eighth inch thick.

Barnford Barnlington

Is this not the barniest barn you've ever seen?

All kidding aside, I found a piece of Ampersand claybord that I didn't know I had, so I decided to design this little scene.

Hidden Treasure Reworked

This is a rework of a painting I posted last year. I felt that it was too flat and lacked a clear focal point. With this treatment, I added shadows and some darker shapes.

Corn Planter Revisited

I drew this from life last December and just now got around to painting it. As I was drawing it I tried to keep it within the 5 x 7 border...but it snuck out and now it is 5 x 8.

I have drawn and painted this same farm implement many times. I continue to be intrigued by its rustic history, its shape and its many ins and outs.

Long White Fence

This is designed from a small cropped area of a photo I took from a long distance away. I was attracted to the stark contrast of white against green and the horizontal and vertical lines here.

Night Lights

I drove around one cold December night recently and took photos of my neighborhood Christmas lights.
There were many with all kinds of colors, but this one caught my attention with its more understated effect.

Big Texas

This is the view from a high point in the Big Bend National Park in Texas. You can see for many miles.

Across the Basin

This is my first painting of 2015. I am again using reference from my son's trip to Big Bend National Park in Texas. This time I took one of his photos and brought it into Photoshop and played with adding sunset shadows. The original reference was rather flat. I think it worked okay.
